TIPS FOR COLLEGE STUDENTS ON REMEMBERING WHAT YOU READ

At the beginning of the college semester, many students need to develop a system of
reading comprehension that works for them  Textbook/technical reading is different
from most course material they have been exposed to previously.

Some of the common complaints that students have are: "I find myself reading the
same sentence or paragraph over and over again or reading the whole assignment
and realizing that they haven't retained anything.

Here are some tips to help with reading retention:

1)   ALLOW YOURSELF TO  FOCUS - Power down/tune out all distractions.

2)    BREAK YOUR READING IN SEGMENTS AND TAKE NOTES

3)    NOTATE QUESTIONS AND FOLLOW UP WITH YOUR PROFESSOR

4)    TAKE BREAKS WHEN NECESSARY

5)     DISCUSS YOUR UNDERSTANDING OF THE READING WITH OTHERS
