I applaude the innovative efforts of newly elected
Governor Scott Walker in tackling some very
difficult issues. He is the first Governor to
formulate real ideas that would translate into
huge savings in Wisconsin's budget!!! Many of
these ideas make perfect sense and should be
considered in other states. Unions have conceded
to the increased member contributions to
healthcare (12.6%) and newly required contributions
to their pensions (5.8%).
Huge areas of State budgets are burdened with these
two outstanding costs (Healthcare and Pension
Benefits) that constantly increase over time. By
making these necessary changes Governor Walker
stated that they will be able to bring down the State
deficit of $3.6 billion over two years (2012 and 2013)
without layoffs!!!! This kind of leadership is necessary
in order to ensure the viability of Wisconsin.
Other ideas that he proposed were more controversial
like ending collective bargaining expect for pay increases,
no more union dues, etc. While these ideas need to be
considered also, unions do have a place in our society;
however, unions have significantly moved away from
their original mission of protecting those workers and
acting in their best interests by alligning with political
agendas!!!!
